A Basic History Of Astronomy

Since humans evolved, we have always wondered what is realy out there, in Space. Many people have contributed to the reasearch on the Universe, but to this day we have only gotten so far. Humans have discovered planets, stars and supernovas and black holes, among many other finds. People have even predicted how the universe was formed, and the most popular version is what we know as "The Big Bang." Other people have described how they think the universe began, adding to the array of theories. None of these has yet been proven, and we may never konw how it all started. All we know is that when the universe began, all time and matter was formed, and none of this matter can be destroyed. This law is known as The Law of Conservation Of Mass. There is also no way to destroy time.

The Theories
The formation of the universe is one of the most debated topics in the scientific world. There are several theories, but what we know as The Big Bang seems to be the most likely one. We may never know how it all began, but scientists are researching for the answer.
The Big Bang
If the Big Bang theory is correct, the object that caused this cataclysmic explosion is what we konw as a Singularity. This singularity would have been of unimaginable density. When this object exploded, the temperature would have been approximatly 100 000 000 000 000 degrees celcius. After the explosion took place, only electrons, positrons, nuetrinos and photons (light). For every billion photons of light, there was only one neutron or proton. So at that time, the universe was filled with light. As the universe cooled, none of the electrons could fuse with nuclei to form stable atoms. After 300 000 years, these elements joined and atoms could be formed. After the elements joined, the universe became clear. From then on, other elements could join. New stars and planets could form, meaning all matter was formed when the Big Bang occured.
The Steady State Theory
The Steady State Theroy states that matter is continually produced and formed into galaxies to replace those that have receded to infinited distances.
